Welcome fellow anglers. The Limnologist was an achievement that was introduced with Cataclysm, the objective of this achievement is to catch 43 different species of freshwater fish. This is a fairly easy achievement to accomplish it just takes some time.
Below is a list of fish needed to complete the achievement and their location. Unlike The Oceanographer achievement, none of these fish are seasonal. Two particular species have a really low droprate from Highland Mix School pools and two other species have higher drop rates at different times throughout the day. All of this information is noted below.
Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor:
Albino Cavefish – Deepholm
Blackbelly Mudfish – Uldum
Bloodfin Catfish – Deadwind Pass
Brilliant Smallfish – Elwynn Forest
Bristle Whisker Catfish – Redridge Mountains
Crescent-Tail Skullfish – Deadwind Pass
Deviate Fish – Northern Barrens
Greater Sagefish – Western Plaguelands
Highland Guppy – Twilight Highlands
Lavascale Catfish – Deepholm
Loch Frenzy – Loch Modan
Longjaw Mudsnapper – Stormwind City
Mithril Head Trout – Western Plaguelands
Mountain Trout – Mount Hyjal
Nightfin Snapper – Blasted Lands – The best time to catch this fish is between Midnight and 6:00 am.
Plated Armorfish – Blasted Lands – The best time to catch this fish is between Midnight and 6:00 am.
Sagefish – Loch Modan
Sharptooth – Deepholm
Sickly Looking Fish – Tirisfal Glades
Striped Lurker – Mount Hyjal
Outland:
Barbed Gill Trout – Zangarmarsh
Felblood Snapper – Shadowmoon Valley
Figluster’s Mudfish – Nagrand
Furious Crawdad – Terokkar Forest – This species is actually fished from Highland Mixed School nodes around Terokkar Forest. The largest grouping of these nodes is around Skettis.
Golden Darter – Terokkar Forest
Goldenscale Vendorfish – Terokkar Forest – This species is actually fished from Highland Mixed School nodes around Terokkar Forest. The largest grouping of these nodes is around Skettis. This species also has a 1% droprate so be prepared to fish these pools for a while.
Huge Spotted Feltail – Terokkar Forest – This species is actually fished from Highland Mixed School nodes around Terokkar Forest. The largest grouping of these nodes is around Skettis. This species also has a 2% droprate so be prepared to fish these pools for a while.
Icefin Bluefish – Nagrand
Spotted Feltail – Zangarmarsh
Zangarian Sporefish – Zangarmarsh

Barrelhead Goby – Sholazar Basin
Bonescale Snapper – Crystalsong Forest
Dragonfin Angelfish – Dragonblight

This another one of the easier fishing achievements to get. It won’t take nearly as long as The Oceanographer because none of these fish are seasonal. Most people I talk to do this achievement in one sitting, I personally worked on it here and there as I was working on other this at the same time.
